Role Overview

The Financial Operations Specialist will be responsible for managing the daily financial processes of the bank, including end-of-day reporting, reconciliation, transaction processing, and regulatory submissions. As the first hire in the finance function, the ideal candidate must be hands-on, systems-savvy, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, startup environment.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, or a related field
• ICAN/ACCA certification (in progress or completed) is preferred.
• In-depth understanding of CBN guidelines, internal control frameworks, AML, KYC, and risk management practices.
• 5 years’ experience in financial operations or accounting, ideally in a banking environment, other financial institution or fintech.
• Strong knowledge of banking operations and regulatory requirements.
• Hands-on experience with accounting and core banking software
• Proficient in Excel and financial data analysis.
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and professional integrity.

Responsibilities
• Oversee daily financial operations, including transaction processing, end-of-day reporting, cash reconciliation, and settlements.
• Ensure timely and accurate posting of transactions and maintenance of the general ledger.
• Manage bank and GL reconciliations, including core banking system vs accounting records.
• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and regulatory submissions (e.g., CBN, MPRs, CRMS, NDIC).
• Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital to support daily banking operations.
• Process payments, staff payroll, and statutory remittances (e.g., taxes, pensions).
• Implement internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Assist in setting up financial systems, policies, and processes in line with CBN requirements.
• Support budgeting, variance analysis, and financial performance tracking.
• Support internal audit preparation and implementation of audit recommendations.
• Liaise with auditors, regulators, and service providers as needed.
