Program Background
EduKAiT is the main platform for the Australian Government’s support to the Kiribati Education sector, specifically by the Government of Kiribati and Ministry of Education (MoE), as it implements its Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP 2024-27).
The Program will be implemented in two five-year phases over 10 years. Phase 1 includes an emphasis on Literacy and Language for School Years 1-3, and gender and increased English proficiency for School Years 7-9 and address the high Year 9 dropout rate for boys.

The Role
KTC Associate Lecturers are responsible for:
• Collaborating with EduKAiT Language & Literacy Team in planning and developing the content of new in-service professional development for Language & Literacy-based professional development programs.
• Supporting Primary and Junior Secondary teachers in the effective implementation of the new language and literacy curriculum, and other MoE curriculum priorities like the Mauboniaia Ataein Tungaru (MAT) using established approaches and methodologies in workshops and through follow up visits.
• Making use of different technology including Microsoft Teams, ZOOM, the production of video and radio broadcasts to support teachers implement the techniques covered in professional development programs.
• Ensuring thorough monitoring and evaluation practices are followed, so that all data and stories are collected according to guidelines.

Management and Supervision:
• KTC Literacy Associate Lecturers come under the day-to-day management of the EduKAiT Literacy Coordinator and EduKAiT leadership and ultimately report to the Senior Lecturer - In-service Program Coordinator at KTC.

Reporting and Recording:
• KTC Literacy Associate Lecturers will be expected to work within the EduKAiT Language & Literacy Team to develop program and personal workplans for activities and submit reports for activities carried out on islands. Other reports may be required by the Associate Lecturer Coordinator. Reports and planning may be shared with the EduKAiT Deputy Team Leader/Technical Advisers, Deputy Principal (Learning Quality), KTC and MoE Executive or nominee, and relevant MoE Program Coordinators.

Selection Criteria
Essential:
• Minimum of 10 years’ teaching experience
• D emonstrated leadership and innovation in teaching, particularly in implementing language & literacy initiatives (e.g. development of innovative teaching approaches, resources or programs; mentoring of other teachers, establishment of school-based professional development initiatives)
• Evidence of understanding of early language learning and development and second language learning; willingness to build personal expertise in language and literacy content
• English language proficiency as demonstrated by Achievement of ISLPR level 4, KELT level 8 or TELPA B2 or equivalent.
• Strong proficiency in written te Kiribati
• Confidence and ability to engage with a range of people including school leaders, teachers, community organisations, children and people with a range of disabilities.
• Evidence of leadership experience in educational or other relevant contexts
• Well-developed presentation and facilitation skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the EduKAiT program including international advisors.
• ICT, data collection and analysis skills
• No formal complaints recorded with the Ministry of Education or another government Ministry or agency
