Job Title: Science Teacher
Reports to: KS Coordinator
Department & School: Teaching / Broadoaks British School
JOB PURPOSE
The Science Teacher at Broadoaks British School will play a crucial role in delivering engaging and high-quality science education to students across Key Stages 3 and 4. As an integral part of the school's dedicated and inclusive team, the Science Teacher will contribute to the school's vision of providing a nurturing, international learning environment that inspires intellectual curiosity and supports the holistic development of each pupil.
RELATIONSHIPS
The Science teacher is selected by the Director of Schools in consultation with the HOS/KSC and HR.
The Science teacher will report directly to the KS Coordinator. However, in the absence of the KSC, he/she will report to the HOS/DHOS who will also provide strategic leadership and day to day oversight. The Science teacher works closely with other teachers, support teachers (SEN), students; and collaborates with parents/guardians, external exam boards and educational resource providers where required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Learning
• Plan and deliver engaging science lessons for students in Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring that lessons are well-structured and effectively support the development of scientific knowledge and skills.
• Set and mark assignments, assessments, and exams, providing constructive feedback to pupils to support their progress and achievement
• Monitor student progress, identifying areas for improvement and adapting teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of all pupils
• Develop and implement curriculum plans, schemes of work, and departmental policies to ensure a coherent and challenging science curriculum
Pastoral Support
• Provide pastoral support and guidance to students, fostering positive relationships and supporting their overall well-being
• Contribute to the wider life and ethos of the school, promoting the school's inclusive values and supporting the personal development of all pupils
Professional Development
• Participate in departmental meetings, sharing best practises and contributing to faculty development to continuously improve the quality of science education
• Stay up-to-date with scientific developments and teaching methodologies, engaging in professional development opportunities to enhance pedagogical skills and subject knowledge
Resource Management
• Manage laboratory resources, equipment, and safety procedures to ensure a safe and well-equipped learning environment for pupils
Skills and Competencies
• Excellent subject knowledge and understanding of the science curriculum, with the ability to make complex scientific concepts accessible to pupils
• Strong pedagogical skills, including the ability to plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that cater to the diverse needs of pupils

Safeguarding
• The Science Teacher will have a key role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children at Broadoaks British School. Specific responsibilities include:
• Adhering to the school's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures
• Reporting any concerns about a child's safety or well-being to the designated safeguarding lead
• Participating in safeguarding training and updates to ensure a strong understanding of child protection issues
• Promoting a safe and nurturing learning environment for all pupils
• Demonstrating a commitment to the school's values of inclusivity, respect, and the holistic development of each child.
Assessment, Recording and Reporting
• Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use outcomes to adapt teaching accordingly;
• Provide quality marking and feedback and identify clear targets for future learning as appropriate
• Carry out assessment cycles (e.g., collection of effort and attainment assessments, reports) as agreed by the school.
• Be familiar with the Code of Practice for identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs and keep appropriate records on Individual Education Plans for pupils.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
1. Teaching & Curriculum Delivery
• At least 80% of students meeting or exceeding science learning objectives.
• Consistent use of inquiry-based and student-centered teaching methods.
• Differentiated instruction to accommodate varied learning styles and needs.
2. Assessment & Student Progress
• Timely grading of tests and practicals with detailed feedback.
• Accurate tracking and reporting of student progress.
• Use of assessment data to inform lesson planning and interventions.
3. Laboratory Management & Safety
• Efficient organization and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Regular inventory checks and timely requests for replenishments.
• Full compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding protocols.
• Zero incidents of safety violations during lab sessions.
4. Practical Engagement & Experimentation
• Incorporation of hands-on experiments in at least 70% of lessons.
• Student participation in science fairs, STEM activities, or club initiatives.
• Supervision of student-led projects or investigations.
5. Curriculum Enrichment
• Development of cross-curricular STEM activities or projects.
• Integration of real-world applications of science in lessons.
• Facilitation of field trips or guest sessions where relevant.
6. Parent Engagement
• Timely communication with parents regarding student performance or concerns.
• Involvement of parents in science-related events, fairs, or presentations.
• Positive parent feedback on science learning experience.
7. Professional Conduct & Collaboration
• Active participation in science department planning and meetings.
• Collaboration with colleagues for shared use of lab resources.
• Timely submission of lesson plans, reports, and administrative tasks.
8. Innovation & Use of Technology
• Integration of digital tools (e.g., simulations, videos, data logging) in science instruction.
• Adoption of innovative approaches to improve student engagement and understanding.
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ TRCN
• Bachelor's degree in Science or a related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
• Postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, PGDE)
• Experience teaching science in a British secondary school or similar educational setting
• Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum and GCSE/A-level science specifications
• Excellent teaching, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs and abilities

WORKING HOURS
Monday through Friday from 7.20am to 4.00pm WAT; work on selected Saturdays may be required to cover staff training and community outreach.
