Job Description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer shall be responsible for the application of mechanical engineering principles to design, specify, analyze, and maintain a wide range of static and rotating equipment. The role spans every project lifecycle, from FEED and detailed engineering to procurement support (including tendering support.. where applicable), construction, installation, maintenance and commissioning, ensuring all mechanical systems are safe, reliable, and fit-for-purpose.
The suitable candidate shall be expected to manage all mechanical engineering issues and opportunities covering design engineering and static/rotating equipment maintenance operations on pumps, valves, compressors, pressure vessels/separators, storage tanks etc.
The candidate must also have a fairly balanced mix of engineering and maintenance to be able to fit into this role.
Key Responsibilities and KPI:
A. Engineering Design & Analysis:
Perform and validate engineering calculations for mechanical systems, including but not limited to pump and compressor hydraulic analysis, pipe stress analysis and material selection.
Develop and review key mechanical deliverables: Equipment Data Sheets (Pumps, Compressors, Vessels, Tanks, Heat Exchangers); Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) and Procurement Packages; Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) from a mechanical standpoint; Fabrication, Inspection, and Test Procedures (FITP).
Ensure all designs comply with relevant ASME, API, ANSI, ISO, and Client’ standards, as well as Nigerian regulatory requirements.
B. Equipment Specification & Procurement Support:
Work as part of the technical selection, specification, and procurement of mechanical equipment.
Develop detailed Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) to assess vendor proposals technically, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
Work with the technical team to review drawings, design calculations, and fabrication procedures.
Manage the mechanical-related Technical Query (TQ) and Deviation Request (DR) process during procurement.
C. Construction, Installation & Commissioning (CIC) Support:
Provide technical clarifications and support to the project and maintenance teams on-site as maybe needed.
Work with the technical team on equipment installation, alignment, and testing (e.g., hydro-test, NDT, performance tests).
Draft and develop pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures for mechanical systems.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues arising during construction, installation, and commissioning phases.
D. Static & Rotating Equipment Focus:
Static Equipment: Specialize in the design and specification of pressure vessels, storage tanks, heat exchangers, and air-coolers. Documentation of fabrication and testing reports.
Rotating Equipment: Specialize in the selection and performance analysis of pumps, compressors, gas turbines, and diesel generators.
E. Safety, Compliance & Quality:
Ensure all mechanical designs and activities adhere to company and project-specific Safety & Quality plans.
Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and other safety review workshops.
Ensure strict compliance with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act in all engineering activities.
F. Maintenance Operations:
Support the maintenance department with mechanical engineering design guidance and oversight while they are carrying out their maintenance activities.
Provide regular training on mechanical engineering principles and theories to help improve the technical knowledge of our technicians.
Lead the technical activities of equipment re-design, revamp and restoration with the active support of the maintenance department.
Educational And Professional Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. A Master's degree is an advantage but not mandatory.
Professional Certification: COREN (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria) registration is mandatory. Membership with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) is required.
Possession of other industry certifications will be highly considered.
Experience: Minimum of 6-10 years of post-graduate experience in mechanical engineering design within an EPCIM or EPC company serving the oil and gas industry.
Field Experience: Field experience in oil & gas process plant or FMCG plant operations, equipment maintenance operations is a very essential requirement.
Technical Proficiency: Demonstrable experience with:
International Codes & Standards: ASME Section VIII Div. 1 & 2, API 610, API 617, API 650, ANSI B31.3, etc.
Engineering Software: Proficiency in at least one of the following: Caesar II for pipe stress analysis, PV Elite for vessel analysis, or similar.
Strong familiarity with the entire equipment lifecycle from design to commissioning including datasheet readings.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: ₦650,400.00 - ₦1,000,000.00 per month
