Job Description
Job Title: Financial Controller (FinTech)

Location: Lagos
Department: Finance
Reports To: Managing Director

Job Summary

The Financial Controller will oversee all accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and regulatory compliance for a FinTech company operating payment platforms, wallets, and high-volume digital transactions. This role ensures integrity of transaction data, accurate settlement with partners, strong internal controls, and full compliance with financial and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities1. Transaction & Settlement Reconciliation
• Oversee daily reconciliation of:
• Customer wallets
• Payment gateway transactions
• Bank settlement accounts
• Partner/merchant settlements
• Ensure zero unreconciled balances across transaction channels.
• Investigate and resolve settlement discrepancies promptly.

2. Financial Reporting
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Produce management reports on revenue, transaction fees, float income, and costs.
• Monitor financial performance vs projections.

3. Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
• Ensure compliance with CBN/financial regulatory requirements.
• Oversee AML/KYC financial reporting requirements.
• Manage statutory filings: VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT, etc.
• Support regulatory and external audits.

4. Revenue Assurance & Cost Control
• Validate revenue from transaction fees, commissions, and service charges.
• Monitor leakages in transaction charges and settlement processes.
• Review contracts with payment partners and banks from a financial standpoint.

5. Cash Flow & Treasury Management
• Manage float accounts, escrow accounts, and operational accounts.
• Monitor liquidity for daily settlements.
• Manage banking relationships and financial instruments.

6. Internal Controls & Risk Management
• Develop financial controls around transaction processing and settlements.
• Implement fraud detection checks from a finance perspective.
• Establish SOPs for transaction integrity and reporting.

7. Budgeting & Financial Planning
• Lead budgeting and forecasting for a fast-growth FinTech environment.
• Develop financial models for new products, pricing, and partnerships.

8. Team Leadership
• Lead finance, reconciliation, and settlement teams.
• Work closely with tech, operations, and compliance units.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• ICAN / ACCA / CPA mandatory.
• 6–10 years experience in accounting/finance.
• Minimum 3 years in FinTech, payments, banking, or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of payment systems, wallets, and settlement processes.
• Experience with ERP/accounting tools and advanced Excel skills.
