Job Summary
Our client is currently looking for a Special Educational Needs Teacher (SEN) who will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of SEN provision and provision for students with additional educational needs. The successful candidate will be required to raise educational achievement by leading and coordinating provision for students with special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching:
• Plan work in accordance with the English National Curriculum, programme of studies and schemes of work.
• Identify clear learning objectives and specify how they will be taught and assessed.
• Take into account students' prior levels of attainment and use them to set targets for future improvements.
• Provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.
• Monitor the progress of pupils under concern.
• Set appropriate and demanding expectations for students' learning, behaviour and presentation of work.
• Maintain good discipline by adherence to the advice given to staff in the staff handbook and elsewhere.
• Liaising with the parents of children with special education needs in co-operation with the class teacher.
• Set work for students absent from class for health or disciplinary reasons.
• Evaluate your own teaching to improve its effectiveness.
• Integrate technology in teaching and learning including the use of promethean boards.
2. Assessment, Recording and Reporting:
• Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use outcomes to adapt teaching accordingly.
• Provide quality marking feedback and identify clear targets for future learning as appropriate.
• Carry out assessment cycles (e.g. collection of effort and attainment assessments, reports) as agreed by the school.
• Attend the appropriate parents/teachers’ meetings to keep parents informed as to the progress of their child.
• Be familiar with the Code of Practice for identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs and keep appropriate records on Individual Education Plans for students.
• Tracking, maintaining and reviewing individual or group progress.
3. Pastoral Work:
• Be the first point of contact for parents of students.
• Attend assemblies and actively assist in the supervision of students.
• Monitor (and set targets for) the social and academic progress of individuals in the class;
• Promote good attendance and monitor in accordance with the school’s attendance policy.
4. Professional Standard:
• Support the aims of the school to promote a “learning community".
• Treat all members of the school community, colleagues and students, with respect and consideration.
• Treat all students fairly, consistently and without prejudice.
• Set a good example to students in terms of appropriate dress, standards of punctuality and attendance.
• Promote the aims of the school by attendance at and participation in events (as appropriate to individual responsibilities).
• Support the ethos of the school by upholding the behaviour policy, uniform regulations etc.
• Take responsibility for own professional development and participate in staff training when provided.
• Reflect on own practice as well as the practices of the school with the aim of improving all that we do.
• Participate in the management of the school by effective participation in various team and staff meetings.
• Ensure that all deadlines are met as published in the school calendar.
• Be proactive and take responsibility for matters relating to health and safety.
5. Other Duties:
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Head of School.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Education or a discipline related to the role (i.e. Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, etc).
• 7 years post-qualification experience teaching and supporting students with SEN within a school or clinical setting (e.g. working as a therapist, educational psychologist or with a health/social care provider).
• Professional qualification and relevant certifications in SEN (i.e. IBCCES, ABA, etc).
• Experience in different settings and with pupils of different ages may be beneficial as the role cuts across EYFS, Primary and Secondary provisions.
• The possession of a Masters in Special Education or Psychology will be an added advantage; so will further professional certification in the area of Special Educational Needs.
