Project Manager – Bridging the Gap in Women’s Health and Wellbeing Project

1. Background

Women and girls with psychosocial disabilities often experience multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination, including stigma, gender-based violence, social exclusion, and limited access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. These barriers significantly affect their wellbeing, participation, and quality of life.

The Bridging the Gap in Women’s Health and Wellbeing Project aims to promote inclusion, improve access to psychosocial support services, strengthen community awareness, and empower women and girls with psychosocial disabilities to participate fully in social, economic, and civic life.

The Project Manager will provide overall leadership and coordination to ensure the effective implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities.

2. Purpose of the Role

The Project Manager will oversee the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the project. The role ensures that activities are delivered efficiently, within budget, and in accordance with project objectives, donor requirements, and safeguarding principles for women and girls with psychosocial disabilities.

3. Key Responsibilities

3.1 Project Planning and Implementation

Lead the development of detailed project work plans, timelines, and implementation strategies.

Coordinate and supervise project activities to ensure timely delivery of outputs and outcomes.

Ensure activities are inclusive, gender-responsive, and disability-sensitive.

Facilitate collaboration with stakeholders including community leaders, disability organizations, and service providers.

3.2 Team Leadership and Coordination

Supervise and support project staff, consultants, and volunteers.

Coordinate with partner organizations and community-based groups.

Promote a collaborative and inclusive working environment.

3.3 Stakeholder Engagement

Build strong relationships with organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), women’s groups, community leaders, and relevant government institutions.

Support advocacy initiatives aimed at improving the rights and wellbeing of women and girls with psychosocial disabilities.

Represent the project in meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagements.

3.4 Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)

Ensure effective monitoring of project activities and outcomes.

Collect and analyze data to assess progress and impact.

Facilitate learning and adaptation to improve project performance.

Ensure that monitoring tools are accessible and inclusive.

3.5 Financial and Administrative Management

Manage project budgets and ensure expenditures align with approved budgets and donor guidelines.

Coordinate procurement and administrative processes related to project implementation.

Ensure financial accountability and transparency.

3.6 Reporting

Prepare and submit high-quality narrative and financial reports to donors and management.

Document project achievements, lessons learned, and success stories.

Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements.

3.7 Safeguarding and Ethics

Ensure the project adheres to safeguarding policies, particularly regarding women and girls with disabilities.

Promote confidentiality, dignity, and rights-based approaches in all project activities.

Address any safeguarding concerns promptly and appropriately.

4. Deliverables

The Project Manager will be responsible for delivering:

Approved project work plan and implementation schedule

Regular progress and monitoring reports

Financial tracking reports

Documentation of lessons learned and best practices

Final project report.

5. Duration of Assignment

The Project Manager will be engaged for the duration of 12 months with the possibility of extension depending on project funding and performance.

6. Duty Station

The Project Manager will be based in Makurdi, Benue State, with periodic travel to project communities and partner locations.

7. Required Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Development Studies, Psychology, Gender Studies, Disability Studies, or related fields.

Minimum 5 years of experience in project management within development or humanitarian programs.

Demonstrated experience working on gender, disability inclusion, or mental health/psychosocial support (MHPSS) programs.

Strong understanding of human rights-based approaches and disability inclusion.

Experience managing donor-funded projects and reporting.

Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

8. Competencies

9. Reporting Line

The Project Manager will report to the Head of Programmes.

10. Ethical Considerations

All project activities must respect the rights, dignity, autonomy, and confidentiality of women and girls with psychosocial disabilities, ensuring participation, accessibility, and non-discrimination in all interventions.
