Job Summary The Finance Manager (acting as CFO) is responsible for the overall financial management, strategic financial leadership, and regulatory compliance of the Microfinance Bank. The role combines hands-on financial oversight with executive-level responsibilities including financial planning, treasury management, risk control, and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate must be a seasoned finance professional with strong microfinance banking experience and dual professional certification in accounting and microfinance banking.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Strategy & Leadership
• Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the Bank’s growth objectives.
• Provide strategic financial advice to the MD/CEO and Board.
• Drive profitability, cost optimization, and long-term sustainability.
• Participate actively in executive management decision-making.
2. Financial Management & Reporting
• Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS and regulatory standards.
• Monitor financial performance, variances, and KPIs.
• Present financial reports to management and the Board.
3. Regulatory Compliance & Governance
• Ensure full compliance with CBN, NDIC, and other regulatory requirements.
• Manage timely submission of all statutory and regulatory returns.
• Liaise with regulators, auditors, and tax authorities.
• Strengthen internal controls and governance frameworks.
4. Treasury & Liquidity Management
• Oversee cash flow planning and liquidity management.
• Manage funding strategies and asset-liability matching.
• Optimize capital structure and ensure financial stability.
5. Risk Management
• Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks.
• Collaborate with Risk Management Unit on credit and operational risks.
• Ensure adherence to risk management policies and frameworks.
6. Budgeting & Forecasting
• Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
• Monitor budget performance and enforce cost discipline.
• Conduct financial modelling and scenario analysis.
7. Tax & Audit Management
• Oversee tax planning and compliance.
• Coordinate internal and external audits.
• Ensure timely resolution of audit issues.
8. Team Leadership
• Lead, supervise, and develop the finance team.
• Build a high-performance finance function.
• Drive continuous professional development within the team.
9. Systems & Process Optimization
• Ensure effective use of accounting and financial systems.
• Drive automation and efficiency in financial processes.
• Improve reporting turnaround time through technology.
Qualifications and Experience
Educational Qualification
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
• MBA or Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Professional Certifications (Mandatory)
• ICAN or ACCA (compulsory)
• Certified Microfinance Banker (MCIB) or equivalent (compulsory)
Experience
• Minimum of 8–12 years relevant experience.
• At least 5 years in a senior finance leadership role.
• Strong and proven experience in microfinance banking.
• Experience dealing with CBN, NDIC, and regulatory reporting.
Technology Requirement
• Proficiency in Sage Accounting or any other core banking applications is mandatory.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling.
