Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing financial reporting, cost control, statutory compliance, and financial operations within the oil and gas environment. The role requires strong technical accounting expertise, industry-specific knowledge, and the ability to support decision-making through accurate financial data and analysis.
The position plays a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and alignment with business objectives, particularly in project-based and operational cost environments.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Accounting
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of general ledger entries
• Manage account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
• Maintain proper documentation for all financial transactions
Cost Control and Project Accounting
• Monitor project costs, budgets, and expenditure tracking
• Analyze cost variances and provide actionable insights
• Support project teams with financial data for decision-making
• Ensure proper allocation of costs across projects and operations
Compliance and Regulatory Reporting
• Ensure compliance with Nigerian financial regulations, tax laws, and industry standards
• Manage statutory filings including VAT, WHT, and corporate tax obligations
• Support internal and external audit processes
• Maintain compliance with company financial policies and procedures
Payroll and Financial Operations Oversight
• Review payroll for accuracy and compliance with approved structures
• Ensure proper handling of allowances, deductions, and benefits
• Monitor financial controls across operational transactions
Cash Flow and Treasury Management
• Monitor cash flow positions and provide forecasts
• Support payment planning and vendor management processes
• Ensure efficient utilization of financial resources
Process Improvement and Systems Control
• Strengthen financial controls and reporting processes
• Support implementation and optimization of financial systems (e.g., Zoho or ERP tools)
• Improve reporting efficiency and data accuracy
Key Requirements
Education and Certification
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA) is required
Experience
• Minimum of 5–8 years accounting experience, preferably within the oil and gas sector
• Strong experience in project accounting and cost control
• Experience handling audits and regulatory compliance
Technical Skills
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems
• Advanced Excel skills and financial analysis capability
