Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and field-driven Regional Training Manager to lead sales capability development across a defined region in Nigeria. This role is focused on on-ground sales training, distribution excellence, and field force performance enhancement within the tobacco and cigarette segment.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on sales professional who has transitioned into training, with a strong background in distribution-led FMCG environments, particularly in tobacco or other high-volume, fast-moving categories.
This position offers a clear progression pathway to a National Sales Manager role, making it suitable for ambitious professionals seeking international exposure and leadership growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales Training and Development
• Design and deliver structured, field-based training programs for frontline sales teams and distributors
• Conduct on-the-job coaching through joint market visits and performance assessments
• Identify skill gaps and implement targeted training interventions
2. Field Sales Excellence
• Drive route-to-market effectiveness, coverage expansion, and beat optimization
• Ensure execution of merchandising standards, visibility norms, and brand presence initiatives
• Monitor and improve key metrics such as conversion ratios, productivity, and strike rates
3. Distribution Management
• Strengthen distributor capabilities in inventory management, secondary sales, and channel development
• Collaborate with distribution partners to improve supply chain efficiency and product availability
• Ensure adherence to company sales processes, compliance standards, and reporting systems
4. Performance Monitoring and Reporting
• Track and analyze KPIs related to sales growth, outlet coverage, and team productivity
• Provide actionable insights and regular performance reports to senior leadership
• Implement corrective measures for underperforming territories
5. Leadership and Stakeholder Management
• Act as a liaison between sales teams, distributors, and senior management
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of field sales personnel
• Foster a high-performance, target-driven sales culture across the region
Candidate Profile
Experience
• 6 to 10 years of experience in FMCG sales and distribution (Experience into tobacco products , cigarettes is mandatory)
• Minimum 2 to 3 years in sales training, capability development, or a similar role
• Strong exposure to tobacco, cigarettes, or comparable high-volume distribution products
Core Competencies
• In-depth understanding of field sales operations and route-to-market strategies
• Proven ability in on-ground training and coaching of sales teams
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and performance management skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership capabilities
Preferred Background
• International or emerging market exposure will be an advantage; however, it is not mandatory
• Candidates currently working as Area Sales Manager, Regional Sales Trainer, or Sales Capability Manager will be preferred
