Human Resources Manager

Kafanchan Internship Undisclosed
Job Description
Let's be honest, most HR job descriptions read like they were written by a policy document that gained sentience. This isn't that.

We're Cardtonic. We're the platform millions of Africans trust for virtual dollar cards, gift cards, bill payments, and gadgets. We've been doing this since 2018, we're close to 2M users, and we're not slowing down. But none of that growth means anything if the people building it don't love being here. That's where you come in. What this role actually is

You're not here to file paperwork and send "gentle reminders" about HMO renewals (though yes, that happens too). You're here to make Cardtonic a place people brag about working at. The kind of workplace where someone's friend asks "how's work?" and they actually have a good answer.

You'll own the human side of a fast-moving fintech, culture, engagement, performance, retention, the whole thing. You'll sit close to leadership, push back when something's off, and build systems that help brilliant people do their best work without burning out.

If you've ever looked at a team and thought "I can see exactly why morale is dipping and here's what I'd do about it", we want to meet you. What you'll actually be doing

Building the culture, not just documenting it. Designing engagement initiatives that people genuinely want to show up for, not the kind that end in an awkward silence.

Being the pulse check. Reading the room, reading the data, and knowing the difference between a vibe shift and a real problem.

Making performance make sense. Frameworks, reviews, growth paths, the stuff that helps people understand where they stand and where they're going.

Supporting managers. Some of our managers are brilliant operators who need a thought partner on the people stuff. That's you.

Handling the hard conversations. Conflict, concerns, the occasional "we need to talk", with empathy and a spine.

Keeping us clean and compliant. Policies, labor law, the boring-but-critical foundation.

Using data like you mean it. HR without numbers is just opinions. We want someone who can pull insights and turn them into decisions. Who we're looking for

Someone who believes HR is one of the most strategic seats in the building, not a support function, not a formality. Someone who's seen a disengaged team and fixed it. Someone who can tell when a policy is serving people and when it's just creating friction. You should be:

CIPM certified Someone who has done this for at least 2- 3 years Experienced in actually moving the needle on engagement, morale, and retention, not just running surveys and filing them A strong communicator who can talk to an intern and a C-suite exec in the same afternoon without changing who you are

Comfortable juggling multiple HR functions without losing the plot A clear thinker who makes decisions instead of forwarding them Why Cardtonic

Because HR here isn't a cost center, it's a strategic function that helps decide how the company grows. You'll have real influence over how we scale, who we hire, and how we treat the people we've already got. Leadership listens, ideas move fast, and the work you do will be felt by every single person on this team.

If you're the kind of HR leader who gets a quiet thrill from watching someone grow into a role they didn't think they could do, come build with us.
