Job Title – Senior Project Manager (Gas Power Plant)

Location: Benin City, Nigeria

About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Senior Project Manager (Gas Power Plant) to lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of gas-fired power plant projects. The role is responsible for managing the complete project lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, regulatory, and technical requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, engineering, commercial, and stakeholder management expertise within the power generation sector.

Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution


Lead the end-to-end execution of gas power plant projects from engineering through commissioning and handover.


Develop comprehensive project execution strategies aligned with contractual and business objectives.


Ensure project milestones, schedules, budgets, and quality standards are achieved.


Manage multidisciplinary engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPC) teams.

Project Planning & Control


Develop and monitor detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.


Track project progress, identify critical path activities, and implement recovery plans when required.


Monitor project KPIs, resource utilization, and overall project performance.


Prepare regular project progress reports for executive management and clients.

Engineering & Technical Coordination


Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.


Review engineering deliverables, technical specifications, and project documentation.


Ensure compliance with international engineering standards and project specifications.


Resolve technical challenges through collaboration with engineering and site teams.

Commercial & Financial Management


Manage project budgets, cash flow, forecasts, and cost control activities.


Monitor project profitability and identify opportunities for cost optimization.


Review and negotiate contract variations, claims, and change orders.


Ensure commercial obligations are fulfilled in accordance with contractual agreements.

Stakeholder & Client Management


Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities.


Build strong relationships with project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.


Lead project meetings and communicate project status, risks, and mitigation plans.


Ensure client satisfaction through proactive communication and high-quality project execution.

Risk Management & Compliance


Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.


Ensure compliance with local regulations, environmental requirements, contractual obligations, and international standards.


Implement project governance and risk management frameworks.


Monitor HSE compliance throughout all project phases.

Commissioning & Project Handover


Oversee commissioning, testing, performance validation, and plant startup activities.


Ensure successful completion of punch list items and project closeout documentation.


Coordinate final client acceptance and project handover.


Capture lessons learned and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Leadership & Organizational Development


Lead and mentor project managers, engineers, site managers, and technical teams.


Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.


Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development initiatives.


Coordinate with global and regional teams to optimize project delivery.

Qualifications & Experience


Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.


Master's Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.


PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification is highly desirable.


12–18 years of experience managing EPC projects within the power generation industry, with significant experience in gas-fired power plants.


Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale power plant projects from engineering through commissioning.


Strong knowledge of gas turbines, combined cycle power plants (CCPP), balance of plant (BOP), EPC contract management, and project controls.
