Job Description
The Role
We are hiring a mid-level accountant to join a Lagos-based financial services client on a full-time, embedded basis. You will work from our Benin City office and collaborate virtually with the client's finance team in Lagos.
This is a reporting and reconciliation role, not a bookkeeping position. The client is automating much of its lower-level journal entry processing. You will sit at the review layer: aggregating transactions, reconciling data across accounts and systems, and compiling reports that the financial controller can approve with confidence.
What You'll Do
- Review and quality-check journal entries from junior team members and automated systems before they reach the financial controller
- Identify posting errors, omissions, and data anomalies; execute corrective adjustments
- Perform daily transaction reconciliation across accounts, ledgers, and operational systems (e.g. payment gateways)
- Conduct bank and account reconciliations as part of month-end and year-end close procedures
- Investigate variances and compile exception reports with structured escalation summaries
- Deliver daily cash positions, operational financial reports, and transaction summaries in a review-ready format
- Own key deliverables within month-end and year-end close cycles, including balance sheet reconciliation and supporting schedules
- Audit existing accounting workflows and flag opportunities to streamline processes, particularly through automation
- Document standard operating procedures as part of the engagement

What We're Looking For
- ICAN certification (required). ACCA is a strong advantage.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- 4 to 6 years of post-qualification accounting experience, preferably in financial services, fund administration, audit, or a multi-entity environment
- Demonstrated experience in transaction reconciliation, journal entry review, and financial report preparation
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar). Familiarity with fund administration tools is a plus.
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data validation
- Comfortable working with automated workflows and adaptable to a technology-driven finance environment. You should be ready to discuss how AI could fit into or replace parts of your workflow.
- Self-directed, organised, and able to meet daily reporting deadlines in a virtual setup
- Clear, professional communication for asynchronous and synchronous collaboration

Working Arrangement
You will be based at the office in Benin City, with reliable internet and infrastructure provided. Day-to-day work is conducted virtually with the client's finance team in Lagos. Short-term travel to Lagos may be required during onboarding for in-person knowledge transfer.

Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience.
