Job Description
Responsibilities
• Receive, log, and process chargeback/dispute notifications from card schemes, acquiring banks, agent banking partners, and merchants within stipulated timelines.
• Track chargeback status through all lifecycle stages (first chargeback, representment, pre-arbitration, arbitration) and escalate high-value or complex cases appropriately.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies between processor, scheme, partner bank, and internal ledger records arising from chargebacks.
• Liaise with the Settlement & Reconciliation team to ensure chargeback debits/credits are correctly posted and do not distort daily settlement positions.
• Monitor suspense accounts related to unresolved or pending chargebacks and drive timely clearance.
• Liaise with merchants, agents, partner financial institutions, acquiring banks, card schemes, and internal Risk/Fraud teams to resolve disputes
• Respond to chargeback-related queries from partner banks and financial institutions relying on 3Line's infrastructure.
• Prepare periodic reports on chargeback volumes, win/loss rates, financial exposure, and aging analysis for management and partner institutions.
• Recommend process improvements and automation opportunities to reduce chargeback volumes and improve resolution turnaround across 3Line's payment channels.
• Investigate disputed transactions across merchant payment, agency banking, and inter-bank settlement channels, gathering evidence (transaction logs, authorization data, POS/agent terminal data, delivery/service confirmation) to support representment or acceptance decisions.
• Prepare and submit representment cases with supporting documentation in compliance with scheme rules and deadlines.
Qualifications
• 3–5 years' experience in chargeback management, card/switch operations, settlement & reconciliation, or payments processing — fintech or CBN-regulated institution experience strongly preferred
• Working knowledge of Visa/Mastercard/Verve chargeback rules and reason codes.
• Proficiency in Excel/reconciliation tools; SQL knowledge is an advantage
• Familiarity with switching platforms, agency banking systems, or core payment processing infrastructure
• Understanding of CBN dispute resolution and consumer protection guidelines relevant to electronic payments.
• Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills; high attention to detail under deadline pressure.
• Strong written communication skills for dispute correspondence with schemes, banks, and partner institutions
