Role Description:
The Project Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Nigeria, responsible for supporting financial management across the African Center's projects. This role oversees project budgeting, tracks expenditures, prepares financial reports, and ensures that all financial activities comply with organizational policies, donor requirements, and applicable regulations.

The Project

Accountant will maintain accurate financial records, manage accounts payable and receivable for projects, and assist with audits and financial reviews. Daily tasks include reconciling project accounts, monitoring cash flow, reviewing supporting documentation, and working closely with program teams to align financial planning with project timelines and objectives. The role also contributes to improving financial systems, tools, and processes to support transparency and accountability in line with the organization’s governance and anti-corruption focus.
Qualifications

• Demonstrated skills in project accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting for multi-donor or grant-funded initiatives.

• Proficiency in general accounting practices, including account reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, and financial record-keeping.

• Experience using accounting and financial management software, along with strong Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.

• Knowledge of compliance requirements for NGOs, including donor regulations, audit processes, and internal control frameworks.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and numerical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in financial documentation.

• Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with program, finance, and administrative teams.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA) is an advantage.

• Experience working in a non-profit, civil society, or development-focused organization, ideally within governance or anti-corruption contexts.

• Demonstrated integrity, commitment to transparency, and alignment with Africancenterdev’s mission and values.
