Job Description
The Ophthalmic Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care and clinical support to patients in an eye clinic. The role involves assisting optometrists and ophthalmologists during consultations and procedures, conducting preliminary patient assessments, administering prescribed treatments, educating patients on eye health, and ensuring compliance with clinical protocols, infection prevention standards, and organisational policies.
Key Responsibilities
• Obtain and document patients’ medical history, presenting complaints, allergies, and relevant clinical information.
• Measure and record vital signs, where appropriate.
• Conduct preliminary assessments and screening within the nurse’s training, competence, and authorised scope of practice.
• Identify and promptly escalate urgent symptoms or changes in a patient’s condition to the appropriate clinician.
• Provide compassionate, respectful, and patient-centred nursing care.
• Receive and prepare patients for eye examinations, consultations, and clinical procedures.

Qualifications
• Registered Nurse (RN) qualification from a recognised institution.
• Current registration and valid practising licence with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
• A post-basic qualification or relevant training in ophthalmic nursing is an added advantage.
• Previous experience working in an eye clinic, hospital, or other healthcare facility is preferred.
• Knowledge of basic ophthalmic procedures, patient assessment, infection control, and clinical documentation.
• Ability to administer medications safely and recognise signs requiring urgent clinical attention.
• Good communication, interpersonal, organisational, and patient-care skills.
• Demonstrated compassion, integrity, confidentiality, attention to detail, and professionalism.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and remain calm in demanding clinical situations.
Pay: ₦150,000.00 - ₦200,000.00 per month
