Role Description The Project Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Abeokuta, responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction and school-building projects. This role involves preparing and monitoring project budgets, tracking project costs, and ensuring accurate allocation of expenses to specific projects and funding sources.

The Project

Accountant will maintain financial records, process payments to vendors and contractors, reconcile accounts, and support financial reporting to management, donors, and other stakeholders. Daily tasks include reviewing project contracts and invoices, assisting with grant and donor financial compliance, supporting audits, and collaborating with project managers and procurement teams to align financial data with project milestones. The role also includes contributing to the improvement of financial processes and controls to support transparency and effective use of funds in line with the organization’s mission.
Qualifications

• Strong project accounting and general accounting skills, including budgeting, cost tracking, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Competence in the use of accounting software and spreadsheets, with the ability to analyze financial data and present clear summaries to stakeholders.
• Knowledge of nonprofit or grant accounting, donor reporting, and basic financial compliance and internal control practices.
• Solid organizational, time management, and documentation skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with project managers, vendors, contractors, and donor representatives.
• Attention to detail, integrity, and a commitment to transparency in handling project funds and financial records.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA) is an advantage.
• Experience in construction, infrastructure, or nonprofit project accounting is highly beneficial; familiarity with the local context in Abeokuta and broader African education challenges is a plus.
