Job Description
About the opportunity The operating company was formed recently by two established Nigerian shareholders, one bringing decades of technical and operating capability and the other a substantial commercial and financial base. It holds a licence over a development-stage oil field with existing well penetrations and defined reserves, and is working towards first oil.
This is a company at the beginning. There is a licence, a small team, a field development plan to write, a well to drill and production facilities to install, and a short timeline in which to do it. The person in this role will sit alongside the Managing Director through all of it.
What you will do
Technical work
● Support the subsurface, wells and facilities teams on the field development plan: assembling and quality-checking data, running routine calculations, preparing figures and maps, and turning technical output into material the board and external parties can read.
● Maintain the technical dataset for the asset — well logs, seismic, pressure and production data, laboratory results — so that the version people are working from is the right one.
● Carry out first-pass analysis under supervision: volumetrics, production profiles, cost build-ups, benchmarking against comparable fields.
● Attend technical reviews, gate meetings and value assurance sessions, record what was decided, and track the actions arising through to closure.
● Prepare and maintain the monthly performance pack: production against forecast, cost against authority for expenditure, schedule against plan.
Coordination and control
● Own document control for the asset. Every figure the company publishes should trace to one controlled source, and keeping that true is a substantial part of this job.
● Maintain the registers the company runs on: regulatory compliance, contracts and consents, risk, actions, and lessons learned.
● Track the delivery schedule and flag slippage early, particularly on items with little float.
● Prepare board and shareholder papers, meeting packs and minutes to a standard that needs no rework.
● Coordinate across the two shareholder organisations, contractors, consultants and regulators, so that the Managing Director's time goes to decisions rather than to chasing.
Working to the Managing Director
● Prepare briefing notes ahead of meetings with the regulator, lenders, partners and the board.
● Follow through on commitments made in those meetings, without being reminded.
● Research whatever the question of the week requires — a fiscal term, a comparable development, a contractor's track record, a piece of regulation — and come back with something usable.
● Take on the work nobody has yet been assigned, which in a company of this size is a great deal of it.
