Job Description
Accountant

Fame Lagos is seeking a highly qualified, experienced, and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team in Lagos.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the company's financial records and accounting operations, ensuring proper financial controls, accurate reporting, timely payments, tax compliance, and effective financial tracking across our events, projects, and day-to-day operations.

We are looking for someone who is professionally competent, highly organised, analytical, trustworthy, confidential, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Accounting

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the company.

• Record and classify all income, expenses, payments, and other financial transactions.

• Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger.

• Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

• Monitor company cash flow and provide timely financial updates to management.

• Identify financial discrepancies, unusual transactions, and potential financial risks.

Payment & Expense Management

• Receive and review financial requests submitted by various departments.

• Ensure requests contain the necessary information and supporting documentation.

• Submit requests for management approval and process only approved payments.

• Verify beneficiary and vendor account details before payment.

• Maintain proper payment schedules and payment evidence.

• Follow up on outstanding approved payments and communicate any payment issues promptly.

• Ensure every payment is traceable to an approved request.

Event & Project Accounting

• Prepare and monitor budgets for events and projects.

• Track actual expenses against approved budgets.

• Monitor event/project revenue, expenses, and profitability.

• Analyse cost variances and identify areas for cost control.

• Prepare post-event financial reports showing revenue, expenses, and profit margins.

• Work with the Sales, Events, Operations, and other departments to ensure accurate financial information.

Revenue & Reconciliation

• Reconcile income from bookings, events, services, sponsorships, ticket sales, and other revenue streams.

• Verify cash, transfers, POS collections, and other payments received.

• Compare sales records, invoices, and actual payments received.

• Monitor outstanding client payments and receivables.

• Identify and report revenue discrepancies or potential revenue leakages.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Process and track vendor invoices and payments.

• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve billing discrepancies.

• Raise and track client invoices where applicable.

• Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue payments.

• Ensure invoices, receipts, and payment evidence are properly filed.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

• Prepare and manage statutory obligations including VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other applicable regulatory filings.

• Ensure timely tax remittances and compliance with relevant financial regulations.

• Maintain accurate tax records and supporting documentation.

• Handle tax-related correspondence and follow up on government financial requirements.

• Keep management informed of relevant tax and regulatory matters.

Financial Controls & Audit

• Maintain strong internal financial controls to prevent fraud, unauthorised expenses, and revenue leakage.

• Ensure all financial transactions have appropriate supporting documentation.

• Maintain organised records for internal and external audits.

• Support auditors by providing schedules, reports, invoices, receipts, and other required documentation.

Management Support

• Provide financial information and analysis to support management decision-making.

• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, pricing, and profitability analysis.

• Provide recommendations on cost-saving opportunities and financial efficiency.

• Assist management with banking documents, financial forms, and other financial documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Professional accounting qualification such as ICAN, ACCA, ANAN or equivalent is an added advantage.

• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, and financial controls.

• Good understanding of VAT, WHT, PAYE and Nigerian tax compliance.

• Experience with budgeting, cash flow management, accounts payable/receivable, and reconciliations.

• Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.

• Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho Books, Odoo, or similar platforms.

• Experience in the hospitality, events, catering, entertainment, or service industry is an advantage.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion.

• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.

• Strong communication and organisational skills.
