Job Description
Manage revenue accounting and receivables for a passenger transport operation—reconciling ticket sales/fare collections across routes and channels, managing agent/partner receivables, and ensuring accurate, leak-free revenue reporting.
Key Responsibilities
● Reconcile daily fare/ticket revenue by route, vehicle, and shift against ticketing system/POS records and cash/POS remittances from drivers/conductors.
● Manage receivables from third-party channels: booking agents, online travel platforms, corporate/charter clients, and interline/partner operators
● Investigate and resolve variances between tickets issued, seats occupied, and cash/e-payment remitted (a key leakage point in passenger transport)
● Post and apply receipts (cash, POS, bank transfer, mobile money, online payment gateways) against the correct route/trip/agent account
● Monitor and follow up on aging balances from corporate accounts, travel agents, and charter customers.
● Reconcile prepaid/advance ticket sales and unearned revenue (tickets sold for future travel dates).
● Support month-end close: revenue recognition per trip completed, accrued/deferred revenue schedules, AR-to-GL reconciliation
● Liaise with operations/terminal staff on daily cash returns, manifest counts, and no-show/refund handling
● Maintain agent/partner account terms (commission rates, credit limits, settlement cycles) in the system.
● Prepare route profitability, revenue-per-seat, and DSO reports for management
● Support fraud/leakage controls—e.g., ticket voids, discounts, driver cash handling discrepancies
● Assist with audit requests around ticket-to-cash reconciliation trails
Key Deliverables / Metrics
● Daily cash/ticket reconciliation accuracy (tickets issued = revenue recorded = cash/POS remitted)
● Minimal unexplained revenue variance/leakage per route
● AR ageing and DSO within target for agent/corporate accounts
● Clean, timely AR-to-GL and revenue reconciliations monthly
● Accurate deferred revenue tracking for advance bookings
Qualifications & Experience
● BSc/HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
● 2–5 years' experience in revenue accounting or receivables, ideally in transport, logistics, hospitality, or another cash/ticket-intensive sector
● Part-qualified/qualified accountant (ICAN, ACCA) an advantage
● ERP/ticketing system experience (NetSuite, Sage, or transport-specific ticketing/POS platforms)
● Strong Excel skills for daily reconciliation and variance analysis
